Celebrating

30 YEARS

of International Marine Science Collaboration

A message from Dr. Enrique Curchitser, PICES Chair.

Dear PICES community:

I find that anniversaries give me an opportunity for reflection and the 30th year of the PICES convention coming into effect is a worthy moment to celebrate. We often hear people refer to the PICES Family. And indeed, many of us found our scientific and professional home in this organization. But surely it is not the administrative details in the convention that makes PICES a unique and tight-knit community. To me, it is the optimism represented by the convention--that we will collectively benefit from working together to understand the science impacting the natural environment and ecosystems of the North Pacific Ocean. That optimism led to the development of trust, the sharing of data and, as importantly, knowledge. The strength of the organization is nowhere better represented than in the active work of the young scientists joining our ranks. I remain optimistic that we will continue to work together, and lead by example showing the benefits of mutual trust, respect and collaboration. To celebrate this 30th anniversary on March 24th of the Convention coming into effect, please share below your own reflections, moments or memories of working together in PICES.

PICES Colleagues, please submit your thoughts and images before March 15th. After this date, the Secretariat will produce a publication in celebration of our 30th. If you have any difficulties submitting your materials below, please email your submissions to Lori.Waters@pices.int
